Information for parents and children
April 2008 

Welcome back; hope you all enjoyed the Easter break. Congratulations to everyone for a super Easter performance at the end of term.  Lots of compliments were received and everyone can be very proud of their achievement; well done.


Swimming

Swimming begins again this term on Tuesday 15th April for both Y4 classes.

4B Leave school at 9.25 a.m.

4T Leave school at 9.55 a.m.


Homework

A big thank you to all who complete homework on a regular basis.  We have been very impressed with the standard of work produced and the quantity and quality of additional resources being brought from home.

All homework will be given out on Wednesday to be returned the following Monday.


Year 4 Summer Curriculum

Literacy: A variety of text-types including narrative and poetry from different cultures, persuasive texts and discussions.

Numeracy: Several topics including solving word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, negative numbers, decimal notation for tenths and hundredths, related to money and measures.  Report and explain solutions to puzzles and problems.  Multiplication facts up to 10 x 10 and related division facts.  Properties of 2D and 3D shape including symmetry.  Measuring length, weight and capacity.  Interpreting scales on graphs.  Perimeter and area of rectangles.  Estimating size of angles, including acute and obtuse angles.  Read time to nearest minute and solve problems in time.  Equivalent fractions.

Science: Habitats, Forces and Friction.  Separating solids and liquids.

RE: Founders and Leaders.

History: Local history (including the civil war and famous people.)

Geography: The environment.  What effect do we have on our environment?
Village Life – Comparing village life in India with village life in England – Chembakolli and Longdon.

Art: Art from different cultures.

DT: Moving Storybooks and Money Containers.

PE and games: Both classes bring outdoor games kit on Monday and swimming kit on Tuesday.


Dates for your diary:

Wednesday 23rd April – Visit to Longdon (Cost £2.75)

Geography – A village study – visiting Longdon where we will join the children of St. James’ Primary school and complete map work in the village.

Thursday 17th April – Indian Dance Workshop (Cost £3.85)

Geography – Links to village study, comparing village life in England with a village life in India.
