Happy New Year to everyone. Hope you all enjoyed a good holiday.
Homework
A big thank you to all who complete homework on a regular basis. We have been very impressed with the standard of work produced and the quantity and quality of additional resources being brought from home.
As last term homework will be given out on Thursday to be returned the following Monday.
Targets – You will all receive targets for writing, reading and mathematics for the following half-term. These will be given to you in a separate letter.
Year 4 Spring Curriculum
Literacy:
During this term we will be covering the following units:
- Fiction writing
- Classic and modern poetry, including poems from different cultures and times
- Information books and explanation texts.
Numeracy:
During this term we will be covering the following units:
- 2D and 3D Shape – polygons, symmetry, angles, perimeter
- Handling date – constructing graphs
- Measures
- Mental calculations including x tables
- Decimal notation
- Multiplication and division (mental and written methods)
- Solving problems in a variety of contexts.
Cross Curricular Topic: Keen to be Green
In this topic we will investigate environmental issues and how they affect us in school. We will think about ways in which we can make changes to become more eco-friendly. As part of your home learning this term you will prepare a short presentation to answer the question – “Is it important to be green?” More details to follow on a Home Learning task sheet.

Games and Swimming sessions take place on the following days: -
Games – Monday
Swimming – Friday beginning January 15th.
Children should ensure that you have the correct kit for these sessions.
Dates for your diary:
Year 3 and Year 4 are currently preparing a performance for Easter. There will be two performances in main school hall on the following dates:
Wednesday 24th March 2010
Friday 26th March 2010
