YEAR SIX

Information for parents and children
January 2008


Happy New Year!!
We hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.  A big thank you to everyone who joined Year 6 before Christmas for the Craft Afternoon.  It was great to see so many parents, grandparents and other relatives joining in the cutting and sticking.


Homework
Well done to all of Year 6 (and their parents/ relatives) for putting so much effort into completing and returning the homework on time.  Keep up the good work this year!

Homework will be set from 18th January 2008, and will follow the same routine of being set on Friday and returned on Wednesday.  The only change will be that the Spelling Task will be replaced with Science homework.

Spring Term Literacy

During the term we shall be covering the following units in our Literacy lessons.

Poetry -Interpreting a range of poetry, and it’s possible different meanings.  Looking at how poets manipulate words.
Narrative Writing -To investigate how authors deal with time and use these conventions in own writing.
-To use different genres as models for own writing, and develop use of paragraphs.
Argument

-To identify the features of a balanced argument and to construct own arguments

Formal

-To understand the use of formal language in official documents


Help Wanted!!

Any parents who could come in to help support children with their reading and comprehension on a regular basis would be very welcome.  Also any help with displays and admin, or occasionally for trips and practical activities would be gratefully received.


Games Kit

Indoor games kit will be required every Thursday.

Indoor kit – white tee shirt and dark shorts.

Outdoor games kit will be required every Friday.

Outdoor kit – trainers and suitable clothing for cold weather.

No football shirts please.
