Family Letter number 10
20th March 2008

Dear Parents,

Tuesday 18th March
Easter Service – Years 3 to 6.

Thanks to everyone who supported us at our Easter Service.  It was lovely to have parents with us.

Open Times to view ‘STAR Books’
We were happy to see all those parents who came to view ‘STAR Books’.  These events proved very popular.

Easter Holiday Reminder

The last day of term is today, the children will return to school on Monday 7th April.

Lent Appeal

The proceeds from this appeal will be donated to ‘Sports Relief’.  Please send in your sponsor forms and money.

Recorder Club

Mrs. Thomson and Mrs. Culverwell will resume Recorder Club on Tuesday 15th April at 12.30 p.m. and each Tuesday after until further notice.

St. Michael’s School Band

Band practice will resume on Tuesday 8th April after school until 4.30 p.m. If your child is interested in joining please contact Mrs. Wyss.
All new members are welcome.

Please note if you are collecting children from Band you need to wait on the Infant Playground and the children will be released through the door from the hall.  No access can be granted through the main entrance due to the security arrangements required by OFSTED and Social Services for Beacon Badgers.

Absences

On occasions you may receive a printed letter asking the reasons for your child’s absence despite the fact that you may have already contacted us.  Please note that sometimes the computer optical mark reader does not pick up the marks made by the teachers on the absence forms.  This is merely a second check to ensure all reasons for absence are accurate, so we would be grateful if you would complete and return the letter as requested.

Netball News

Despite the extremely strong winds our Year 6 Netball Team enjoyed playing an exciting match against The Willows last Wednesday.  The team worked hard to come from behind and the match ended in a draw.  Well-done girls!

Changes to the Leadership Team After Easter

Mrs. Carr will be finishing as Key Stage 1 Phase Leader at Easter.  We would like to thank her for her contribution to the Leadership Team since taking up post here at St. Michael’s.  Mrs. Carr will continue as a class teacher and continue to teach 1C.

Following recent interviews Mrs. Strachan has been appointed as a Phase Leader to replace Mrs. Carr and will join the Leadership Team after Easter.  Arrangements for the Summer Term will be as follows:

Mrs. Elcock - Foundation Stage Phase Leader (Nursery and Reception)

Mrs. Garratt - Key Stage 1 Phase Leader
(Years 1 and 2)

Mrs. Strachan - Lower Key Stage 2 Phase Leader (Years 3 and 4)

Mrs. Moseley - Upper Key Stage 2 Phase Leader
(Years 5 and 6)

Mrs. Brittain will continue as a member of the Leadership Team co-ordinating the development of Maths in the light of last year’s OFSTED Report.  Mrs. Garratt will be carrying out the Key Stage 1 role alongside that of Deputy Headteacher.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher

PTA News

Easter Fundraising Event: Chocolate Bingo

It was lovely to see so many of you attend our family event, Chocolate Bingo.  It was tremendous fun and altogether we raised just over £600, which may be used towards future playground equipment.  Thanks to everyone who supported this event and the non-uniform day which preceded it.

Egg

Thanks to ANSONS - Solicitors, Lichfield for their generous donation of a large luxury Thornton’s Easter Egg, which was the star prize in our Chocolate Bingo Raffle.

We’d also like to say a big thank you to George Andrew, our Bingo Caller for the night.  He did a fantastic job, as we’re sure you’ll agree.

PTA Meeting
The next meeting is on Monday 14th April from 7:45-9:00pm.  All welcome.

Greenhill Bower Procession,
Monday 26th May 2008

We are interested in involving the school in the Greenhill Bower over the Spring Bank Holiday.  As this is a new venture we felt perhaps it would be best to do things on a smaller scale and build up once we have dipped our toes in the water.  Rather than have a huge lorry, a smaller vehicle might be better for our first entry.

Do any parents have a classic car, a quirky car, a camper van or any 'interesting' vehicle which they would be happy to drive in the Bower procession with maybe some school children travelling inside and adult collectors walking alongside?  If you have any mode of transport you think might be suitable please drop me (Lindsey Smith) a note into the school office.

Anyone interested in being involved with our Bower project please also pop a note into the office or mention it to a member of the PTA.

St. Michael’s Primary School
PTA Summer Fayre 2008

Next term, preparations will begin for our summer fayre!  In the meantime, please make a note of the date in your diaries.  It’s scheduled to take place on Saturday 28th June from 12pm-3pm.
