Family Letter number 6
15th May 2008

Dear Parents,

School Photographs

The photographer will be in school in the afternoon of Monday 19th May to take class photographs of children in the Reception Classes and Year 6.  The children can wear summer dresses or polo shirts with trousers, skirts or shorts.  We would appreciate it if the children could have their royal blue cardigans or sweatshirts with them.

Cross Country
Congratulations to our Cross Country Team on coming 3rd in the event held at Whittington Primary School on Wednesday 7th May.  Well done!  Special congratulations to Lyle Poley who came 8th out of 109 runners!  A wonderful effort.

Sun Protection Guidelines

Children can bring their own sunscreen into school, but for health and safety reasons staff are not able to apply it.  We will encourage the children to drink plenty of water.  It would be helpful if you could encourage them to bring caps/hats in to wear in the playground.

Water Bottles

All children should have a water bottle in school so that they can remain hydrated throughout the day.  New bottles of water can be purchased for 20p.  Or empty Sports Bottles at a cost of £1 each.  Please ensure you send your child with a Sports Bottle – ordinary bottles left on tables without the cap being replaced are liable to be knocked over and spillages spoil children’s work.

Tag Rugby Competition on Monday 19th May
We wish our Tag Rugby Team well for next Monday, 19th May, when they represent us at Lichfield Rugby Club.  Good Luck!

Music Demo Evening – Wednesday 21st May at 6.30 p.m.
If you wish to come to the musical instrument demonstration evening with your child and see what is on offer and have not already returned your slip please do so now.

Final Tri-Golf Practice
Monday 19th May 3.30 – 4.15 p.m.

Monday 19th May will be the final Tri-Golf practice; we hope the children taking part have enjoyed this after school club.

Friday 23rd May at 2.30 p.m. – 3S Class Worship
We look forward to parents/carers of children in Class 3S joining us on Friday 23rd May at 2.30 a.m. for this event.

Monday 26th May until Friday 30th May – Half Term
A reminder that school closes at the normal time on Friday 23rd May and reopens on Monday 2nd June 2008.

Recycled Printer Ink Cartridges

Please keep sending any empty ink cartridges from all printers – if you have any at home please bring them into school – there is a collection box in the foyer.  We will raise extra funds from this great new idea and help the environment at the same time!

School Garden
If anyone could volunteer some time to help in our school garden we would be very grateful.  Please contact
Mrs. Griffiths.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher

PTA News

The Children’s Discos profit will be used to buy a Camcorder for the School

We raised around £300 at the recent children’s discos.  This money will purchase a Camcorder to be used by pupils in years 5 and 6. This will enable them to record presentations/ events and help them evaluate their work.

Next PTA meeting- Summer Fayre
The next PTA meeting to discuss the summer fayre will take place on Monday 9th June at Main school from 7-9pm. This meeting will be open to anyone who just wants to ‘drop in’ during this period.
So if you want to find out more or are interested in helping with this year’s summer fayre but are not sure what’s involved then please feel free to pop in, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Summer Fayre Grand raffle
We need prizes for the Summer Fayre Grand Raffle! Examples include family days out, beauty treatments, vouchers, meals for 2 etc. If you know someone who might be able to supply us with a suitable prize then please ask on our behalf! Remember all the money we raise buys valuable resources for your children’s school.

Tesco computer vouchers/ Sainsbury Active Kids/ Nestle Box Top Tokens
Check your purses, wallets, bags and cereal packets! Please continue to send these into school so we can use them to buy valuable resources for school.

Lichfield Bower – St. Michael’s debut!
Bank Holiday Monday 26th May 2008
Are you doing anything exciting this Bank Holiday Monday? Would you like to have fun and raise money for St Michael’s School at the same time? St Michael’s will be taking part in the Lichfield Greenhill Bower Parade for the first time and we are looking for parent volunteers to come and join the fun.

We are not having a float so your time and energy will not be called upon beforehand. All you need to do is turn up on the day in Fancy Dress (preferably as a Spice Girl or a member of the Village People - cowboy, red Indian, policeman, etc) and walk in the procession shaking a bucket to collect money from the crowds of spectators.

We need a minimum of 8 ‘responsible adults’ to help us with this but the more the merrier. If you would be able to join us, even for part of the journey please contact Lindsey Smith or any other member of the PTA. We want to create a real party atmosphere so please feel free to come and join the fun.
