New Class Lists

Class lists will be displayed in the entrance hall after school on Monday 30th June until the end of Open Evening.  You are welcome to come and see whom your child will be with.  Please can you wait until after school before coming in to view the lists.

Open Evening

Please come and join us at the Open Evening on Tuesday 8th July between 4.00 and 6.00 p.m.  Please feel free to look around the whole school, not just your child’s class.  It is a wonderful opportunity for you to see your child’s classroom for next year and celebrate their ‘STAR Week’ work from this term.

French Club

If your child has French Lessons and you have not already paid for this session please do so by Friday 27th June 2008.

Sports Day

Sports Day for Key Stage 2 is Friday 11th July at 1.15 p.m. on the main school field.

Sports Day for Key Stage 1 is Monday 14th July at 1.15 p.m. also on the main school field.

We look forward to seeing parents and grandparents at these events.

Swimming Team

Congratulations to our Swimming Team who won the trophy at the Lichfield District Large Schools’ Gala.  Well done.

Year 6 Leavers Evening – Wednesday 9th July at 6.30 p.m.
We look forward to seeing Year 6 parents at this event.  Refreshments will be provided by the P.T.A.

School Gates

In the interests of safety could we again remind you that all pedestrians (pupils, parents and visitors) should enter the main school site via the pathway on Cherry Orchard.  Please do not use the entrance on Sturgeons Hill, there is no footpath and it is unsafe.

Water Bottles

Now that the weather is warmer please can you make sure that your child has a named water bottle in school so that they have access to water throughout the day.  Research demonstrates that children who are hydrated learn far more effectively.

Good luck to our pupils involved in the Inter Schools Sport Day -– Wednesday 25th June 2008

We wish our children well for next Wednesday when they represent us.  Good Luck!

Staffing Arrangements for September
We are now able to confirm which teachers will be teaching in which year group next year.  The end of term will see us bidding ‘farewell’ to three of our teachers: Mr. Freeman, Mrs. Baillargeon and

Mrs. Griffiths.  Both Mrs. Baillargeon and Mrs. Griffiths will be retiring at the end of the school year and I am sure you will want to join me in wishing them well for the future (and all the fun-filled and action packed plans that they have).  Another change is that due to new legislation we are required to have a fully qualified teacher in the Nursery from September.  Therefore our staffing arrangements for September will be:

Nursery - Mrs. Barker
Reception - Mrs. Elcock,Mrs. Lane
Year 1 - Mrs. Wilkowski, Miss Hulse
Year 2 - Mrs. Strachan, Mrs. Brooks
Year 3 - Mrs. Carr, Miss Attwood
Year 4  - Mrs. Brittain, Mr. Halliday
Year 5 - Mrs. Beddow/Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Hardwick
Year 6 - Mrs. Moseley, Mr. Greenwood.

There will be an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s new teacher during the Main School Transition Afternoon (Monday 7th July) and the Annexe Induction Day (Thursday 3rd July).  More details will follow shortly.  Current class teachers are finalising the lists for September but please be aware that we cannot factor in any requests for specific teachers.  The focus is on creating two balanced classes in each year group of boys/girls and ability groups.

Message from the Road Safety Unit
We hope that you are enjoying walking to school!  Why not help your child learn more and encourage them to stay safe by letting them guide you to school and to tell you when it’s safe to cross.  Children tend to forget to keep looking and listening whilst crossing – this is a great time to practice.

Non uniform Day / Special Lunch – Tuesday 24th June 2008 – Theme – Olympics
Mrs. Knight, our Acting Cook, is having a special lunch on Tuesday 24th June 2008 for children who would like to have one.  The theme will be ‘Olympics’.  Children may come to school in non uniform in the colours of a country of their choice.

The cost will be the normal price i.e. £1.75 and money should be brought on the day.

PTA News

Summer Fayre Help Needed- Saturday 28th June 12-3pm
We still need help setting up the stalls from 10am -12pm, manning the stalls from 12- 3pm, and/or tidying away after the Fayre from 3-4pm.
If you can help in any way, even if just for an hour or half an hour that would be great!

Please drop us a note with your name and contact details into the PTA tray in the main school office.

Summer Fayre Program Design Competition
Thanks to everyone who submitted a design for this competition.  A lot of effort and creativity has been put into them.  It’s going to be hard for our judge to decide which designs to choose.

Summer Prize Draw
Each family should have received an allocation of raffle tickets for this years’ Summer Prize Draw which will be drawn at our Summer Fayre on Saturday 28th June 2008.  This Prize Draw, along with the Summer Fayre, is the major fundraising event for the school. The money being raised will be used to buy valuable extra resources within school and a proportion has been pledged towards future playground equipment.

This year’s prizes include the following;

So, please help us to make the Prize Draw our most successful yet, by selling your tickets and indeed if you can sell more, please ask.
Please return your ticket stubs and money plus any unsold intact tickets to school in the envelope provided by Friday 20th June please.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
