Family Letter number 14
18th July 2008

It seems hard to believe that another year has passed.  Time has just flown by.  Thank you to everyone for all of their support this year.  The children have all worked hard and deserve a well-earned holiday.

Summer Holiday Reminder

Tomorrow, Friday 18th July is the last day of term.  Children will be dismissed at the normal time.  The Autumn Term for pupils begins on Wednesday 3rd September.

School Meals

In September the cost of school lunch will be £1.85.
Will all parents whose children owe lunch money please send it into school tomorrow.

Farewell to Mrs. Griffiths, Mrs. Baillargeon, Mr. Freeman and Mrs. Leadbeater

Tomorrow we say goodbye to Mrs. Griffiths and Mrs. Baillargeon.  I am sure you will join with me in wishing them both a long and happy retirement.  We also wish Mr. Freeman and Mrs. Leadbeater well in their new posts. We would like to thank them all for their huge contribution to the life of our school community.

Dogs on School Premises
In the interest of Health and Safety we request that you do not bring dogs onto the school premises.

Key Stage 1 Sports Day – Monday 14th July & Key Stage 2 Sports Day – Wednesday 16th July.
We would like to thank all parents and grandparents who attended these events.  The children all enjoyed the day very much.

One Site Project
Our vision to become a one site school is progressing and we should know in the middle of August a timescale for building work.  However, at the moment we are undergoing a number of bat surveys.  We currently have bats roosting in our main school building and may be subject to ‘bat mitigation measures’.  Should this be the case the project will be delayed while the bats are supported in finding another home!

Football Tournament – Saturday 5th July

Congratulations to our Girls’ Year 4 Football Team who played so well in last week’s County Youth Games. The girls played really well and thanks to their endeavours, won and we became the County Champions. This was fantastic and the children should feel very proud of themselves.  Many thanks to all of the adults who have helped coach, support and transport the children.

Message from the Road Safety Unit
Is your child moving to a new school?
Parents, over the summer holidays it’s a good time to help your child find the safest route to their next school, discuss using safe places to cross and not walking whilst talking or texting on a mobile phone.
For those not moving on – we are looking forward to seeing how many of you can continue walking in September.

Have a lovely break…            from Staffordshire Road Safety Education Team.

PTA News

It’s the end of another academic year and we thought it would be nice to take a moment to reflect over the year’s calendar of social and fundraising events organized by the PTA here at St. Michael’s.

Over the year we provided three children’s discos (one in each term).  Popular with the children these provided an opportunity for them to meet their friends after school and let their hair down.  In November 2007 we hosted the children’s film show ‘Ratatouille’.  It was a warm evening and an enjoyable time was had by all.  At the beginning of December we held the Christmas Fayre, at school, incorporating a range of popular stalls along with seasonal touches such as mulled wine and authentic German waffles.

In February 2008 we hosted our first ‘ladies night’ incorporating a ladies fashion show and ex-chain stores clothes sale at Boley Park Community Hall.  All the models were mums from the school and they did a terrific job.  Then in March we held a family night of Chocolate Bingo, where all the prizes were delicious Easter eggs.  At the end of June we were extremely lucky with the weather for our annual ‘Summer Fayre’ and able to host all our popular outdoor events such as the coconut shy and the inflatables.  This year ‘horsey hoppers’ made their debut.

Throughout the year, refreshments have been provided by the PTA at school events such as class worships; Nativity and Easter productions and other events throughout the school calendar.  People have also provided their time to help out in ways such as covering books, counting Tesco’s/ Sainsbury’s vouchers and helping out at fundraising events.

Altogether we have raised just over £9000 this academic year.

A proportion of this has been pledged towards future playground equipment, and the resources we have funded from this, in 2007/8 are as follows;

Infants Christmas Presents

£328.18

‘Animal Man’ Visit to School

£260.00

Theatre Company Production

£1,150.00

Children’s School Xmas Party Disco’s

£240.00

Playground Equipment

£509.15

Specialist Audio and Visual Equipment

£1,394.64

Digital Movie Creator

£383.50

Leavers Books

£259.57

In addition, we have recently pledged £146.90 towards role-play panels for use in Key stage 1 and £200 toward a music library resource for staff to support the creative curriculum.

It has been a terrific and busy year for us.  Fund-raising requires a huge amount of effort, so every bit of support from parents, friends, sponsors and teachers is always greatly appreciated.  The PTA would like to extend their thanks to Mrs Elcock for all the help and support she has provided again this year.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday 15th September, 7:45-9pm in the Main School Staff Room.  We welcome new faces and ideas.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
