Dear Parents,

Following OFSTED last year we held an evening where governors, staff and parents came together to explore issues around the OFSTED report and to explore through interactive sessions with staff some of our teaching strategies.  We are holding another similar event on Wednesday 1st October and hope you will be able to join us then.  Further details will follow next week.

Michaelmas Communion Service – Tuesday 30th September 2008
Our Years 5 and 6 pupils will be celebrating Michaelmas with a Communion Service at 10.00 a.m. in Church.  We do hope that you will be able to join us.

Parents’ Evenings

Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th October from 3.30 – 6.30 pm

Clothing and other personal items
Please ensure all items of clothing and other personal items are clearly marked with your child’s name.  Lost property can be returned if named clearly.

Message from the Road Safety Unit
We hope your children have had a great summer.  It’s back to school again and walking all or part of the way is the “healthy” way to get to school.    Children love chatting with their friends!  But, remind them to keep looking and listening especially when crossing the road and to use the School Crossing Patrol or safe crossing places at all times.   Remember that October is International Walk to School Month, so, Keep Walking!

P.T.A. News

Tesco Computer Vouchers
Check your purses, wallets and bags over the weekend.  The final day for banking these vouchers is approaching.  If you do still have any of these could you please bring them into school by Monday 22nd September at the latest please, so we can use them to buy valuable resources for school. Thanks again to all the people who volunteered to sort and count these vouchers.

Nestle Box Top Tokens
Help feed your children’s minds with Nestle Box tops for books.  Simply cut out the token from the top of special packs of Nestle cereals and bars and hand them into school.  Remember that school can get 1 book for as little as 10 tokens, or a cash alternative.

We Recycle Printer Ink Cartridges
Please keep sending any empty ink cartridges from all printers – if you have any at home please bring them into school – there is a collection box in the foyer.  We raise extra funds from this and its helps the environment too.

P.T.A. Meetings
Thanks to everyone who attended Monday’s meeting.  It was quite rushed but we hope we conveyed a comprehensive overview of fundraising here at St. Michael’s.  It was nice to see so many new faces and we hope to have another fantastic year of social and fundraising events.

The next chance to meet members of the P.T.A. committee is at the evening for Governors, Staff and Parents on Wednesday 1st October which starts at 7.00 p.m. We hope to do a short presentation about the role of the P.T.A. here at St. Michael’s.  We will hold a P.T.A. A.G.M. later in the year (November/December) after the accounts have been audited.

There will also be a fairly informal P.T.A. meeting on Monday 13th October in the Shoulder of Mutton Public House, London Road, at 7:45 p.m. onwards.  This meeting will discuss the Christmas Fayre 2008, which is scheduled to take place in school on Friday 5th December from 6.00 -8.00 p.m.  All welcome.
