Family Letter number 6
Autumn Term, 9th October 2008
Dear Parents,
Safety Notice Car Drivers
There was a collision last week between two cars when one used the new dropped kerb entrance near the school to reverse. This is extremely dangerous as pedestrians are not immediately aware of this new arrangement because the fence and hedge are still in place. Please do not use this as a facility to turn round. The police are monitoring the situation.
If you would like to make an order, please complete the envelope and enclose money as instructions. Please make cheques payable to ‘H. Tempest Ltd’.
Harvest Festival - Tuesday 14th October 2008This will again be celebrated in church. A service for will be held for Reception, Years 1 and 2 at 9.30 a.m. and one for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 at 2.00 p.m. Parents are warmly invited to join us. We would very much appreciate contributions of small ‘luxury’ non-perishable food items (chocolates, jam, biscuits etc.) for elderly and infirm members of our local community.
There will be a collection at church; proceeds will go to ‘Water Aid’, a charity, which provides clean water around the world. Any donations you would like to send into school to add to this collection will be very welcome.
Parents/Grandparents LunchWe look forward to seeing as many Parents/Grandparents as possible for these events. Please return the slip indicating how many adult lunches are required. The cost of the meal is £2.17 for adults and £1.85 for children, to be paid on the day.
Staff Training Day – Friday 24th October 2008
A reminder that school is closed to pupils on Friday 24th October 2008.
The Half Term holiday is 27th October to 31st October 2008.
CoatsJust a quick reminder about the children needing a coat in school. A number of children have not had coats with them this week. Now that the weather is colder and potentially wet they really need a coat in school.
AbsencesOn occasions you may receive a printed letter asking the reasons for your child’s absence despite the fact that you may have already contacted us. Please note that sometimes the computer optical mark reader does not pick up the marks made by the teachers on the absence forms. This is merely a second check to ensure all reasons for absence are accurate, so we would be grateful if you would complete and return the letter as requested.
Parent Consultation EveningsThank you for all the positive comments to all the staff with regard to the children’s achievements. We look forward to meeting with more parents today. These evenings strengthen the partnership between home and school.
Cycle Marking
Lichfield Police are holding a cycle marking and fluorescent armband making session on Sunday 11th October from 12.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. in Cruck House, Stowe Street, Lichfield. All welcome to attend.
Message from the Road Safety Unit
It’s starting to get darker now and colder. How is your child’s winter coat? If you have to buy your child a new coat, please think about the colour and if it can be seen. Children should be encouraged to wear bright coats that will show up well on darker nights – or reflect with special patches or strips on them. If your child’s coat is fine but dark and not reflective consider getting something to help them be more visible. Reflectors are usually available locally especially at places like Halfords and now at most major supermarkets.

Harvest Festival Gifts and Deliveries
Could anybody spare a couple of hours to help us make up harvest parcels for members of the community during week commencing 13th October? If you think you could help could you please see a member of the P.T.A. or pop your name and contact details into the P.T.A. tray in the school office. Many thanks.
Send Christmas Cards designed by your Own Child
This year you’ll have the opportunity to send Christmas cards designed by your own child. Each child in school has designed a card, a sample of which will be distributed to you this week. You will then be able buy packs of your child’s Christmas card design. Each pack of ten cards will cost £5.00 and the P.T.A. will receive £1.25 for each pack sold.
It will be possible to view the designs online should friends and family also wish to place an order. Details of how to do this will follow with the sample cards this week.
Please note all orders must be received in school by Wednesday 22nd October in order to make the printing deadline. The packs of cards will then be delivered to school and distributed via the children in mid November.
