Family Letter number 12
Autumn Term, 27th November 2008

Dear Parents,

Barnardos Charity Envelopes
Please return envelopes to school by tomorrow, Friday 28th November.

Children in Need ‘Penny Trail’
We would like to thank everyone for the donations to our Children in Need appeal.  We have banked a total of £234.02p for this charity.  The class with the longest ‘Penny Trail’ was 5BT – 77m 80cm.  Many thanks for your support.

Poppy Appeal
Fantastic fundraising! A total of £71.69 was collected.  Again many thanks for your support.

Advent Carol Service – Years 5 and 6
– Wednesday 3rd December

Parents and Grandparents are warmly invited to join us in St. Michael’s Church for our Advent Carol Service.  We shall begin at 2.00 p.m.  This service will be followed by an opportunity for parents to view their child’s ‘STAR Book’ at the Annexe.

Visit to Pantomime at Lichfield Garrick - Nursery to Year 4

If your child is in any class from Nursery up to Year 4 and wishes to attend the Pantomime at Lichfield Garrick and you have not already done so please return the permission slip and £8 to cover the cost of admission.

Reception Children Arrangements before and after school
Now that our Reception children have settled in we would like the children to come down the path and into the Infant Playground independently.  We would appreciate your support in this matter, as it is far easier for us to supervise the children and ensure their safety without adults on the path and playground.  Also at the end of the day parents/carers should wait on the Infant Playground rather than on the path or slope.  This again is for the safety of the children.

Christmas Lunch

I would be lovely if all pupils could participate in our Christmas Lunch.   If your child wishes to join us please remember to return your slip to our school cook, Jo Faulkner.

Operation Christmas Child

We would like to thank everyone for donating Shoeboxes for this project.  Our school collected 116 boxes.  Well done.

Christmas Puddings

We are once again selling these delicious Christmas puddings so please get your orders into school as soon as possible – remember they make great Christmas gifts.
The Puddings come in two sizes:
the 1lb. Pudding (serves 4 approx.) cost £6
the 2lb. Pudding (serves 8 approx.) cost £8

Christmas Holiday Reminder

School closes at the normal time on Thursday 18th December and reopens on Monday 5th January 2009.

Absences

On occasions you may receive a printed letter asking the reasons for your child’s absence despite the fact that you may have already contacted us.  Please note that sometimes the computer optical mark reader does not pick up the marks made by the teachers on the absence forms.  This is merely a second check to ensure all reasons for absence are accurate, so we would be grateful if you would complete and return the letter as requested.

Sponsored Events

Thank you for your support in these events.  All children in school benefit in many ways from money raised.  Please could you encourage your children to collect money in as soon as possible.

Netball Match
Our Netball Team won the match they took part in on Friday 21st November against Whittington Primary School.  The score was 12 – 1.  Congratulations and well done to all those involved.   Thanks to staff and parents who enabled this event to take place and helped the pupils to reach such a high standard.

Neighbourhood/Business/School Watch Message
Police have received a number of reports of residents receiving telephone messages or texts, from ‘International Parcel Delivery’ stating they have a large parcel for delivery, and to call 232 222 70680.  THIS IS A SCAM.   You are likely to be charged a very high rate for this call.  If you receive such a message, and are not expecting a delivery, do not respond.  You may like to contact Staffordshire Trading Standards to bring this to their attention.

Christmas Fayre – Help Still Needed

Friday 5th December.
For your Christmas Fayre to be a success we need volunteers to help on the day, whether it be setting up 3-6pm, helping on a the BBQ 6-7pm/ 7-8pm, or a stall 6-7pm/ 7-8pm or helping to tidy up afterwards 8-9pm.  If you can help for an hour, then please let us know; drop us a note with your contact details or complete the ‘help slip’ on the help needed letter and return it to school.  Thanks.

Christmas Fayre – Cake Stall
Do you like to bake cakes? Do you know someone who likes to bake cakes? One of the stalls at our Christmas Fayre sells delicious cakes.  We have issued special ‘cake bags’ for any cake donations.  If you would like to make or buy a cake for this popular stall, please place it in the cake bag provided and bring it into school on Friday 5th December (the day of the Fayre).

Christmas Fayre- Toy/ Book/ DVD Stall
Now is the time to have a final sort out of those unwanted good quality toys, cuddly toys, gifts, books, DVD’s etc ready to bring into school for the Toy Stall.  We will be happy to accept these items in school From Monday 1st December - Please ensure any donated items are in good working order/ good condition etc as we won’t have time to sort them before they go on sale.  Thank you for your help in this.  This is always a popular stall for the children.

Come to your Christmas Fayre at Main school, Friday 5th December, 6-8pm.

Try your luck on the tombolas and check out our stalls, including the fabulous new stalls from our Year 6 children: “Christmas Dinner Stall”, “Tug the Tinsel Stall”, “Santa and Elf Hat Sales” and “Birthday Bear”.  There will be delicious hot waffles and mulled wine on sale for that festive feel and much more besides!  So make it a date and come along and see for yourself!

Round Table Christmas Tableau 2008

We have been lucky again this year to secure a place on the Lichfield Round Table Christmas Tableau.  In exchange for assisting the Round Table and sleigh with their street collection, we receive a percentage of the overall takings - a substantial amount towards St. Michael’s fundraising.

Date:    Monday 8th December
Time:   6:30pm onwards
Route:   Broadlands rise and surrounding area

In previous years it has been great fun.  You collect donations door-to-door and stop along the way for drinks and refreshments.  Only adults can assist with the collection, sorry no children allowed.  If you are able to help then please let the PTA know ASAP. Drop us a note with you name and contact details into the office. We need at least 10-15 adult volunteers, so please consider helping out.  Thanks.

Morrisons ‘Let’s Grow’ Campaign.
Any more vouchers?

Thanks to everyone who has supported this initiative by collecting vouchers and bringing them into school.  Thanks also to Ann who suggested collecting them for the school and has been laboriously counting them with her family! Thanks also to Jenny for her assistance with voucher counting.  We’re going to exchange them for some lovely equipment for the school garden in the near future.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
