Family Letter number 4

Friday, 15 February 2008

Dear Parents,

St. Michael’s School Band

Band practice will resume on Tuesday 19th February after school until 4.30 p.m.  If your child is interested in joining please contact Mrs. Wyss.
Please note if you are collecting children from Band you need to wait on the Infant Playground and the children will be released through the door from the hall.  No access can be granted through the main entrance due to the security arrangements required by OFSTED and Social Services for Beacon Badgers.

Parent Consultation Evenings

Thank you for all the positive comments made last night to all the staff with regard to the children’s achievements.  We look forward to meeting with more parents today.  These evenings strengthen the partnership between home and school.

Recycled Printer Ink Cartridges

We are still collecting any empty ink cartridges from all printers – if you have any at home please bring them into school.

Yellow Moon Fundraising Catalogue

Please take time to look at this catalogue.  School receives up to 25% on purchases you make.  Remember to quote the school source code:  SST3027 on your order.

St. Michael-on-Greenhill Church: Confirmation Classes 2008

In preparation for the annual Confirmation Service in Lichfield Cathedral on Sunday 22nd June 2008, confirmation classes for adults and young people will commence shortly at St. Michael’s Church.  It is quite acceptable for anyone who wishes to explore their faith to enrol without necessarily committing themselves to confirmation at this particular stage in their life.  Children in Year 6 are invited to consider confirmation.  The adult course will be led by the Rector and Trevor James and the young people’s course by Mrs. Lesley Allen.  If you are interested, even just to enquire about what is involved, please leave a message with the St. Michael’s Parish Office (01543 262211) and we will get back to you.

Bad Weather

Would parents please not telephone the school before 8.15 a.m.  If the school is closed we notify the local radio stations i.e. BRMB, Heart FM and Radio WM.  It is important to keep the telephone lines open for staff contact.  Priority has to be given to ensuring the site is safe and warm for children and staff.  Please be aware that there are no office staff before 8.30 a.m.

Year 6 Parents –Shugborough Certificates

A reminder that parents/grandparents are invited to St. Michael’s Church on Tuesday 5th February at 9.00 a.m. when there will be a short service followed by a presentation of certificates to children following our recent residential visit.

PTA News

These will take place on Wednesday 6th February, in the Main School Hall.

Juniors: Year 3 to Year 6 5:45-7:00pm
Admission is £2.50, payable on the door (School Main Entrance)

A Tuck shop selling sweets and bottled water will be available during both discos.

Thanks for all the offers of help received so far.  We always need plenty of help especially with the juniors disco, so if you are able to help please return your help slip.

Could parents please collect all children promptly afterwards via the Infant Playground.  Thank you.

Ladies Fashion Show and Clothes Sale
St. Michael’s PTA are hosting a Smarty’s Fashion Show and Clothes Sale on Wednesday 27th February, from 8pm -10pm, at Boley Park Community Hall. Hopefully you will have all received a ‘lilac’ letter with a slip for advance ticket sales.

As well as being a great night out with your friends, it should provide an opportunity to purchase new ex-chainstore ladies clothes from major high street stores at huge reductions.  We have been told that the brands stocked are typically ‘Next, Peruna, Wallis and Principles’ and you can expect savings of around 50%.  We have also been told that the sizes stocked are from 8 to 22.

All the ‘models’ in the fashion show will be familiar faces, as they will be St. Michael’s school mums! Thanks to all the mums who have kindly agreed to do this for us.

Please return your advance ticket slips to the office ASAP.  Spare letters are also available from the office if you didn’t receive one.

A final note about methods of payment on the night.  We have been told that ‘Smarty’s ’take all forms of payment including credit cards.  It is still worth bringing some cash though for some of the other stalls e.g. Jewellery and of course the PTA-run ‘Bar’.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
