2010 Ofsted Report

Family Letter number 2
Spring Term, 15th January 2009

Dear Parents,

Beginning of the School Day
We remind parents that school begins at 8.50 a.m. each morning.  Please ensure that your child is on the playground by this time as parents who bring children in late disrupt lessons already started.  If you are unavoidably late after the bell, please take your child into school through the Reception area and do not send them down into the playground as the outside doors are locked after everyone is inside.  Well done to Reception children who are now coming down the path unaccompanied.  Teaching can get off to a much quicker start.

Nursery Parents – Safety of your children
Please be aware that the car park is used at all times by delivery vehicles and cars.  The entrance to Sturgeons Hill MUST NOT BE USED AT ANY TIME.  Enter and leave school grounds via the Cherry Orchard path only. The safety of your children is our priority.

Parent Teacher Consultation Evenings
Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th February 2009.

An appointment system has been organised so that the waiting time to see your child’s teacher will be kept to a minimum.  Please return your slip indicating which times you prefer as soon as possible.

Swimming begins
Swimming lessons begin tomorrow, 16th January 2009 for Classes 3C and 4H.

Netball and Athletic Teams
Good luck to our Netball Team in the match tomorrow 16th January 2009 at The Willows Primary School and also to our Athletic Team when they represent our school at Chasetown Sports College on Tuesday 20th January 2009.

St. Michael’s School Band

Band practice has resumed after school until 4.30 p.m.  If your child is interested in joining please contact
Mr. Greenway.
Please note if you are collecting children from Band you need to wait on the Infant Playground and the children will be released through the door from the hall.  No access can be granted through the main entrance due to the security arrangements required by OFSTED and Social Services for Beacon Badgers.

Used Stamps

We are still collecting used postage stamps for St. Giles Hospice.  Please send any used stamps into the school office.

Recycled Printer Ink Cartridges

We are still collecting any empty ink cartridges from all printers – if you have any at home please bring them into school – there is a collection box in the foyer.  We hope to raise extra funds from this great new idea and help the environment at the same time!

Year 6 at Shugborough

The children seem to have had a wonderful week at Shugborough.  Every year we are congratulated on their behaviour.  The children all pulled together as a team and Mrs. Moseley, Mr. Greenway, Mrs. Strachan and Mr. Hardwick were really impressed by the way they cared for and supported one another.  Our Year 6 children have been excellent ambassadors for the school and a year group that we can really be proud of.

Theatre Company in school

On Monday 19th January we will be having a visit from M & M Theatre Company; they will entertain the children with a performance of ‘Peter Pan’. Key Stage 1, Foundation and morning Nursery will watch at 9.30 a.m.  Key Stage 2 and afternoon Nursery will have their performance at 1.30 p.m.

P.T.A. News

Christmas Fayre 2008
The fundraising total for the Christmas Fayre was around £1660.  This is fantastic given the disastrous power cut and the last-minute re-arrangement.  Thanks again to everyone who supported this event, either by helping with the stalls or supporting us by attending.

We’re sure you’ll all agree that the stars of the evening were our fantastic year 6 stall holders.  It was the first year we asked them to get involved and they did a fantastic job.  Their profits are summarised below.  Well done.

Year 6 Stalls Profits
Tug the Tinsel - £47.48
Santa Hats - £87.09
Birthday Bear - £33.60
Christmas Dinner - £61.75

Fund Raising Update
We are putting some of the profits towards our target of providing £10,000 towards some fantastic new playground equipment, once the proposed building work has been completed.

In the meantime, we have agreed to fund numeracy and literacy equipment for each Phase Group so hopefully each child should benefit from funds.

The Christmas party Disco’s attended by Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 were also funded by the PTA at a total cost of £260.

Christmas/Plum Pudding Half-price Sale
We have a few luxury Christmas/Plum puddings left and although they have 2010 best-before dates we are selling them off (half-price), so we don’t have to store them.  So if you want to pick up a bargain luxury pudding for next year or if you simply love plum puddings all year round (why wait till Christmas) then they are on sale in the office.

Large Puddings (2lb) now only £4, Smaller puddings (1lb) now only £3.  While stocks last!

PTA Children’s Disco Organiser Needed

We need someone to organise the Children’s PTA School Discos.  No previous experience is necessary, just a little time.  Full training and support from the PTA will be given.  The role could be shared.

The PTA usually organises 3 children’s discos per year (1 per term).  Due to school hall availability they usually take place on a Wednesday after school (4:30-5:30pm and 5:45-7:00pm).  The organisers’ role entails photocopying a letter to children and liaising with the DJ, PTA, School and Helpers.

If you are interested or need further information then please contact a member of the PTA or leave a note for us with your contact details in the PTA tray in the school office.

We need somebody to come forward for future disco’s to take place so please consider it.  Thanks

Date For Your Diary

This is a good chance to meet the committee, and find out what funds were raised over the previous year and how this was achieved.  We will be providing drinks and nibbles too.  So why not pop along and see what your PTA has been doing.  All welcome.
