Family Letter number 8
Spring Term, 5th March 2009
Dear Parents,
Farewell to Mrs. Strachan
I am sure you will want to join me in wishing Mr. Strachan well in his new role as transport advisor to the Queensland State in Australia. However, the downside of his prestigious appointment is that Mrs. Strachan will be leaving us at Easter.
The Governing Body Personnel Committee have appointed Mrs. Wakefield as Mrs. Strachan’s successor. Mrs. Wakefield will be joining us after Easter as both teacher of 2S and Key Stage 1 Phase Leader. Mrs. Wakefield’s school have also agreed to release her to spend time with 2S and Mrs. Strachan to ensure a smooth transition for the children and the Key Stage 1 team.
Absences
On occasions you may receive a printed letter asking the reasons for your child’s absence despite the fact that you may have already contacted us. Please note that sometimes the computer optical mark reader does not pick up the marks made by the teachers on the absence forms. This is merely a second check to ensure all reasons for absence are accurate, so we would be grateful if you would complete and return the letter as requested.
Parent Governor Election
We are pleased to announce that our new elected Parent Governor is Mrs. Jenny Bryant.
Alton Towers 50% off Vouchers
Leaflets giving 50% off admission to Alton Towers are available by request from Main School office.
Red Nose Day, Friday 13th March 2009 - “Do something funny to raise money”.
A reminder that to raise money for this worthy cause, we have decided to “wear something funny to raise money!” Next Friday, 13th March, we will be having a fancy dress day! So, in return for a small donation, children can wear a funny item of clothing, such as odd socks or an unusual hat! Thank you for your continued support.
Parents’ Evening – Thursday 26th February 2009
Thank you for all the positive comments made to all the staff with regard to the children’s achievements.
St. Michael’s Church Parish Magazine
This magazine contains news and events from our parish. If you wish to buy a copy of the Parish Magazine it is available from Main School Office at a cost of 50p.
Catch the Walking Bus!
Now that spring is (hopefully) just around the corner, why not encourage your child to join the Walking Bus. It is a fantastic way for the children to get some exercise and fresh air and for parents it is a great alternative to the school run, easing congestion and helping the environment.
At St. Michael’s we run the Walking Bus on 3 separate routes as follows:
1. Shortbutts Lane – Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays
2. Minors Hill – Fridays
3. Boley Park (Co-op) – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Please note that all buses leave at 8.20 – although this seems quite early, it gives us plenty of time to get the children into the playgrounds at school well before the bell goes.
The buses follow a designated route and are led by trained volunteers. We are able to pick up passengers at pre-arranged bus stops along the way. Parents are welcome to walk with the children with no commitment to the running of the service, although new volunteers are always welcome to help spread the load and potentially offer the service on more days. We recognise that it is not always possible for parents to help out and so this is not a condition for your child to take part – they are very welcome to join the bus on their own. Interested? All you need to do is complete a consent form (available from the school office) and turn up. Please contact any of the volunteers if you require any more information.
Yours faithfully,
Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
