Family Letter number 9
Spring Term, 12th March 2009

Dear Parents,

 Inset Day – Friday 20th March 2009
A reminder that Friday 20th March 2009 is a staff training day.  School will be closed to pupils on this day.

Absences

On occasions you may receive a printed letter asking the reasons for your child’s absence despite the fact that you may have already contacted us.  Please note that sometimes the computer optical mark reader does not pick up the marks made by the teachers on the absence forms.  This is merely a second check to ensure all reasons for absence are accurate, so we would be grateful if you would complete and return the letter as requested.

Sturgeons Hill Entrance

We would remind you that the entrance onto Sturgeons Hill is a vehicle entrance.  Parents and children should use the gate on Cherry Orchard at all times.

Easter Performances – Year 3 and 4

We are very much looking forward to our Year 3 and 4 Easter Performances.
These will be on:

Wednesday 25th March in the afternoon
Friday 27th March in the morning.

We do hope that Year 3 and 4 parents will be able to join us.  Further information will follow closer to the time.

P.T.A. News

P.T.A. Meeting
Thanks to everyone who attended the last meeting and offered their valuable contributions.  The next meeting is on Monday 27th April from 7:45-9.00 p.m. in the Main School Staff Room.

Children’s Discos
Thank you to everyone who supported the children’s discos by attending or helping out.  We will let you know how much money they raised shortly.

Thank you Joyce
A big thank you to Joyce who has done a terrific job organising the children’s discos, but sadly can’t continue due to work commitments.  We wish her every success in the future.  We are still looking for a volunteer to help run future discos.  If we are not successful in getting additional help we will be unable to run a children’s disco for a while.  Please consider volunteering if you can.

Non-Uniform Day Thursday 19th March
We are holding a non-uniform day next Thursday (Thursday 19th March) as part of the preparations for our family Easter fundraising event, Chocolate Bingo.

Children will be able to come into school wearing their own clothes in exchange for a suggested donation of either 50 pence per child or 1 Chocolate Easter Egg per family.  Just bring your money or Easter egg into school on Non-uniform day.  Please note that sensible clothing and footwear should be worn in school.

Family Event Chocolate Bingo Friday 27th March 6:00-8:00 p.m.
It’s nearly Easter once again and to celebrate St Michael’s P.T.A. are holding an evening of family fun.  Bingo with a twist- all the prizes are chocolate Easter eggs!

We will not be running a bar, although you are welcome to bring your own drinks (wine, beer or soft drinks).  A tuck shop selling sweets and bottled water will be available on the night.

Tickets are priced at £1.00 per person (to include your first few bingo cards- additional cards will be available on the night).  Please return your booking slips by Wednesday 25th March so we know numbers in advance.

Fundraising Update
Remember the power-stricken Christmas Fayre of 2008? We are going to share the profits from the Fayre (£1500) amongst every class in school.
We have pledged £100 to each class so that every child should benefit from these funds.
We are looking forward to seeing how the money will be spent.

 Adults 80’s Disco

We are holding an 80’s Disco (over 18’s only) on Saturday 9th May, 8:30-11:30 p.m. at Boley Park Community Hall.  We will be running a licensed bar on the evening.  Fancy dress optional.  Prizes for the best male/female.  Tickets priced £5.  Make a note of the date in your diaries, and book your babysitters! A separate letter with further details and booking slip will be distributed shortly.
