Family Letter number 5
7 February 2008

Dear Parents,

Parking

Our local Police Community Support Officer has asked us to make you aware that any vehicles illegally parked around school will be given a parking ticket.  Cars parked on the grass verges in Oakhurst will also incur the penalty fine as the yellow line incorporates the verge and the footpath to the boundary.  This carries a fixed penalty fine of £30.

Half Term Holiday Reminder

School closes at the normal time tomorrow, Friday 8th February, and reopens on Monday 18th February.

Family Praise Education Sunday – February 10th -10.00 a.m.
in St. Michael’s Church
We hope you can be in church for this annual event where the world of education is celebrated.  As in previous years some of our children will be taking part.

Visit in school from ‘The Animal Man’.
On Tuesday 19th February the children will experience seeing an assortment of animals and a talk from a member of the Natural History Lecture Service.  This is always a popular event on our school calendar.

Sainsbury’s 2008

We will once again have the opportunity to acquire equipment for our children using Sainsbury’s Vouchers.  Please send any you collect into school.

St. Michael’s School Band

Band practice will resume on Tuesday 19th February after school until 4.30 p.m.  If your child is interested in joining please contact Mrs. Wyss.
Please note if you are collecting children from Band you need to wait on the Infant Playground and the children will be released through the door from the hall.  No access can be granted through the main entrance due to the security arrangements required by OFSTED and Social Services for Beacon Badgers.

PTA News

PTA Meetings
Thanks to all those who attended Monday’s PTA meeting.  As a committee it is important that we get to hear other people’s views on the fundraising events we organise.  Thanks for all your suggestions.  Keep those ideas flowing!
The next PTA meeting is on Thursday 6th March from 7:45pm-9:00pm.

Children’s Discos
Thank you to all the parents who offered their time to help out at the discos.  Without your support we wouldn’t be able to run these events, which the children enjoy so much.

Ladies Fashion Show and Clothes Sale
St. Michael’s PTA are hosting a Smarty’s Ladies Fashion Show and Clothes Sale on Wednesday 27th February, from 8pm -10:30pm at Boley Park Community Hall.  Please note that we have decided to extend the evening until 10:30pm to ensure there is ample opportunity for any post-fashion show shopping!

As well as being a great ‘ladies night out’ (sorry guys we will try and organise something for you too in the very near future!), it promises to be a great shopping opportunity.  Clothes brands such as ‘Next, Peruna, Wallis and Principles’ in sizes from 8 to 22, and we have been told you can expect savings of around 50%.

We have been told that ‘Smarty’s’ take all forms of payment including credit cards.  It is still worth bringing some cash for the other stalls e.g. Jewellery and the PTA-run ‘Licensed Bar’ and don’t forget we will also have representatives from ‘The Body Shop’ and ‘The Pampered Chef ‘on hand for all your beauty, pampering and culinary needs.

As part of the evenings fundraising, we will be selling 100 numbers at a cost of £1 each on the night, with one lucky number winning a basket of Body Shop goodies to the value of £50. Thank you to Helen from The Body Shop for organizing this for us.

The closing date for advance ticket sales is Friday 22nd February (first Friday after half-term), so book your baby sitters and please return your advance ticket slips to the office ASAP.  Spare letters are available from the office if you didn’t receive one. Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
