Family Letter number 11
Spring Term, 26th March 2009
Dear Parents,
Access to our Main School Site
If you are arriving at or departing from our main school site as a pedestrian please can you ensure that you use the pedestrian entrance on Cherry Orchard. A nasty accident was narrowly missed earlier this week when a member of staff almost reversed into a parent with a push chair. Schools are required to have separate pedestrian and vehicle entrances. Only vehicles and pupils transferring from the Annexe under the supervision of staff should use the Sturgeons Hill entrance.
Parent Representative on our School Worship and Ethos Committee
We currently have a vacancy for a parent representative on this governing body committee. Over the past ten years a number of parents have been involved which has enabled the committee to gain the perspective of parents. If you would like any further information please contact Miss McKay via the main school office.
Holiday Dates and School used for election purposes.
A reminder that school closes at the normal time on Friday 3rd April and reopens on Monday 20th April. Half term dates are Monday 25th until Friday 29th May. Monday, May 4th, is Bank Holiday and school (both sites) will be used as a Polling Station on Thursday June 4th, school will be closed to pupils on both days.
Before and after school some of our children are ‘playing’ on the machinery, which is sited by the bottom of the path leading to Church. Please reinforce to your children how dangerous this machinery can be and remind them to keep themselves safe and avoid these machines.

Sporting Teams
Over the last few weeks there have been lots of occasions our sports teams have given the school reason to celebrate. Firstly, the boys ‘A’ football team represented themselves and the school excellently in a thirteen school tournament. Hot on the heels of that, the Year 6 Netball teams won the Lichfield Schools Tournament. Finally the girls cross-country teams went to Whittington Primary School where they achieved second place overall in a very strong field. Well done to all the children who have represented St. Michael’s over the last few weeks and a big thank you to all those parents who came along to help out and support.
School Prayers
A little while ago, it was decided that our current school prayer needed revising and the children were given the opportunity to write a prayer for their phase group. The four new school prayers will be read out in the last whole school worship before the Easter break. It was difficult to choose just four but thank you and well done to all the children who participated.
Whole School Worship – St. Giles Hospice.
This Friday, 27th March, the whole school worship will be led by a representative from St. Giles Hospice, who will be talking to the children about the hospice and its work. Should this raise any sensitive issues, please talk to your child’s class teacher before Friday. Thank you.
P.T.A. News
Fundraising Update
As you may be aware we have recently pledged to divide the profits of the Christmas Fayre (£1500) across the whole school by donating £100 to every class.
It is important to have long term fundraising goals and balance this with continuing to pass the benefit of our funds directly back to the children. Our current long term fundraising goal is to raise £10,000 towards future playground equipment. Together we have reached half of our target to date (£5000) and will continue to build on this total by adding half of the profits from future fundraising events. We will keep you updated with our progress.
Tickets are priced at £1.00 per person (to include your first few bingo cards- additional cards will be available on the night). Please return your booking slips by next Wednesday 25th March so we know numbers in advance. If you haven’t been before, it’s good family fun. |
Adults 80’s Disco
We are holding an 80’s Disco (over 18’s only) on Saturday 9th May, 8:30-11:30 p.m. at Boley Park Community Hall. We will be running a licensed bar on the evening. Fancy dress optional. Prizes for the best male/female. Tickets priced £5. Make a note of the date in your diaries, and book your babysitters! A separate letter with further details and booking slip will be distributed shortly.
