Family Letter number 12
2nd April 2009

Dear Parents,

Item from our Governing Body
“At our last Governors meeting, we welcomed Jenny Bryant, newly elected parent governor.  She has been quick to get involved in the work of the Governing Body, joining our Curriculum Committee and attending its recent meeting.

We would like to announce that the School Worship & Ethos Committee (SWEC) requires a parental representative.  This individual does not need to be a Governor or take on Governor responsibility. Anyone interested in contributing to the work of the SWEC, is invited to contact Helen McKay via the main school office.

You can expect some changes to the existing St. Michael’s website as we work to turn it into an ‘interactive learning platform’.  This means you will be able to access information about the curriculum and find out what your child is learning in school so you can support them more effectively at home.  It should help bring school and parents closer together – something we are striving for.  More on this in our next update.

Our next meeting is 14th May.

St. Michael’s Governors wish you and your family a happy Easter break.

In the event of children being ill during the day

From time to time all of our children will be ill. If your child is ill before school please could you keep them at home.  On occasions children are fine in the morning and then become ill during the day.  Parents will be contacted by a member of staff to collect children who are unwell.  It would be greatly appreciated if this could be arranged as soon as possible as one sick child quickly becomes several sick children.

Absences

On occasions you may receive a printed letter asking the reasons for your child’s absence despite the fact that you may have already contacted us.  Please note that sometimes the computer optical mark reader does not pick up the marks made by the teachers on the absence forms.  This is merely a second check to ensure all reasons for absence are accurate, so we would be grateful if you would complete and return the letter as requested.

Holiday Dates and School used for election purposes.
A reminder that school closes at the normal time tomorrow, Friday 3rd April and reopens on Monday 20th April.  Half term dates are Monday 25th until Friday 29th May.  Monday, May 4th, is Bank Holiday and school (both sites) will be used as a Polling Station on Thursday June 4th, school will be closed to pupils on both days.

Tuesday 31st March - Easter Service – Years 3 to 6.
Thanks to everyone who supported us at our Easter Service on Tuesday.  It was lovely to have parents with us.

Viewing ‘STAR Books’ Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 – Tuesday 31st March and
today, Thursday 2nd April Key Stage 1.
We were happy to see all those parents who came to view their child’s ‘STAR Book’.  It proved very popular.

St. Michael’s Good Friday Activities

At St. Michael’s Church, 1.00 p.m. on Good Friday, we shall be thinking and praying through doing: activities suitable for all ages, and child friendly.
Come and help make our Easter garden, or a banner for church, paint an egg or write a poem or prayer.  Stay to enjoy Hot Cross Buns around 1.45 p.m.
A short All Age, child friendly Stations of the Cross service follows straight after at 2.00 p.m.

Increase in the cost of School Lunch
As of 20th April 2009 the cost of the children’s school lunch will be £1.95.

Year 3 and 4 Easter Performances –
Thank you too to everyone who has supported the Easter performances.  They have been thoroughly enjoyable and the children should be proud of their achievements.

Band Practice
Last Monday was the final Band Practice of this academic year.  We hope to see everyone next year when practice recommences.

Dinner Money

On occasions your child may come home with a note from the kitchen regarding a shortage of dinner money.  We appreciate at times that this can be frustrating but obviously we can only respond to the money the children present.  If they lose money before it is given to the cashier or any change afterwards, then we are not in a position to replace it or accept any responsibility.

Class Photographs – Reception and Year 6
Reception Classes and Year 6 will be having group photographs taken on Monday 27th April 2009.
