PTA News
It’s the end of another academic year and we thought it would be nice to take a moment to reflect on the events organized by the PTA here at St. Michael’s.
Over the academic year we provided two children’s discos (Autumn and Spring terms). Popular with the children these provided an opportunity for them to meet their friends socially after school and let their hair down.
In November 2008 we involved Year 6 pupils in a “Dragons Den” competition to create new stalls for the Christmas Fayre. There were so many excellent ideas that Year 6 ran stalls at both school fayres. It was lovely having their input and enthusiasm.
At the beginning of December we held the Christmas Fayre, at school, having to postpone it at the last minute due to unforeseen power cuts! Frustrating for all involved, but it did illustrate what a fantastic school community we have when the fayre was rearranged at short notice for the following week. We incorporated a range of popular stalls along with seasonal touches such as authentic German waffles.
We also organised the opportunity to purchase your children’s personalized Christmas cards. We received a lot of positive feedback about this venture, and raised important funds for school too. We plan to offer this opportunity again.
In May 2009 we hosted our first ‘Adults 80’s Disco’ incorporating optional fancy dress and 80’s clothing at Boley Park Community Hall. This was the first event of this kind we had organized and an enjoyable evening was had by all. We are planning to hold a sequel to this event in the very near future. Watch this space for further details…
Then in March we held a night of Chocolate Bingo, where all the prizes were delicious Easter eggs. This is always a popular family event.
Finally, On the Fourth of July, we were extremely lucky with the weather for our annual ‘Summer Fayre’ which had an American Independence day theme. In addition to the popular outdoor attractions such as Beat the Goalie, the coconut shy and the inflatables we also had candy floss, Pimms and a plant stall making their debut at the fayre. Thanks to everyone who made this years summer fayre so successful.
Throughout the year, refreshments have been provided by the PTA at school events such as class worships; Nativity and Easter productions and other events throughout the school calendar. People have also provided their time to help out in ways such as covering books, counting Tesco’s/ Sainsbury’s vouchers and helping out at fundraising events.
Altogether we have raised just over £8400 this academic year.
A proportion of this has been pledged towards future playground equipment. We have pledged £8000 towards canopies for the playgrounds. The resources we have funded, in 2008/9 are:
Classroom Equipment (£100 to each class) |
£1,500 |
Theatre Company Production |
£1,195 |
Year 6 Leavers Books |
£306 |
‘Animal Man’ Visit to School |
£260 |
Children’s School Xmas Party Disco’s |
£260 |
Infants Christmas Presents |
£235 |
KS1 Play Panels |
£144 |
It has been a terrific and busy year for us. Fund-raising requires a huge amount of effort, so every bit of support from parents, friends, sponsors and teachers is always greatly appreciated. The PTA would like to extend their thanks to Mrs Elcock for all the help and support she has provided again this year.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday 21st September, 7:45-9pm in the Main School Staff Room. We welcome new faces and ideas.
Date for your Diary: Friday 16th October, Clothes Recycling. |
Yours faithfully,
Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
