A separate letter will be following with further details but we do hope to see as many of you as possible at our first parent consultation evenings of the year.  The consultations are for pupils in Years Reception to 6 where there will be an opportunity for you to discuss how your child is settling in with their teacher.

Years 1 and 2 Parent/Grandparents Carers Lunch

We look forward to seeing as many Grandparents/Parents Carers as possible for these events.  Please return the slip indicating how many adult lunches are required.  The cost of the meal is £2.30 for adults and £2.00 for children, to be paid on the day.
Year 1 lunch with parent/grandparent and carers will be on Wednesday 23rd September 2009.
Year 2 lunches with parent/grandparent and carers will be on Thursday 24th September 2009.
Years 3 to 6 will be notified of their dates soon.

Water
Water can be bought in school at a cost of 20p per bottle.  Refillable sports bottles are £1.15 each.

Jewellery and Make Up

In school we follow the LEA Guidelines regarding jewellery and make-up.  Children can wear a watch to school and plain stud earrings if they have pierced ears.  Both watches and earrings have to be removed for P.E., Games and Swimming.

Catch the Walking Bus!
At the start of another school year, why not encourage your child to join the Walking Bus.  It is a fantastic way for the children to get some exercise and fresh air and for parents it’s a great alternative to the school run, easing congestion and helping the environment.

At St. Michael’s we run the Walking Bus on 2 separate routes – Boley Park (Mondays and Fridays) and Shortbutts Lane (Fridays).  We leave at 8.20 a.m., which gives us plenty of time to get the children into the playgrounds at school well before the bell goes.

We would particularly welcome any new parent volunteers to enable us to run the bus on more days as some of our volunteers from last year are no longer able to help out.  If you are interested and could spare one morning a week please contact Sue Benton (Staffordshire Walking Bus Co-ordinator) on 07773 791347 or speak to any of the St. Michael’s walking bus volunteers.  We do, however, recognise that it is not always possible for parents to help out and so this is not a condition for your child to take part – they are very welcome to join the bus on their own.
Interested in your child walking with the bus? All you need to do is complete a consent form (available from the school office) and turn up.

We are hoping to organise a session at school shortly for parents to find out more about the walking bus – further details will be communicated via the Family Letter.

Visit to Lichfield Garrick Theatre – the afternoon of Wednesday December 2nd.
All children in Years Nursery to 4 will visit Lichfield Garrick Theatre to watch a production of ‘Aladdin’.  Details to follow shortly.

PTA news
Welcome back from all on the P.T.A.  Those of you new to school may like to know that our P.T.A. performs a number of roles in school life at St Michael’s. Our primary function is supporting the school through fundraising but we also provide a social element for children and adults through our events such as our discos, film nights, chocolate bingo, and our Summer & Christmas fayres.  We also support the school in other ways through offering our time to serve refreshments at school productions and worships etc.

If you would like to get involved with the P.T.A. we always welcome new members and our next meeting will be the ideal time to come and meet us…

P.T.A. meeting- Monday 21st September, Main School Staff Room, 7:45-9pm

Our meetings are fairly informal, usually chatting over a cup of coffee/tea.  We will be discussing and planning future fundraising and social events for this term.  If you want to meet the present committee, or find out what’s involved then please feel free to pop in.  We always welcome new faces and new ideas.

Below are a few dates for your diary: a letter will be will be sent out about these events with full details nearer the time.

Friday 16th October: Clothes and Shoes Recycling Day arranged by St. Michael’s PTA

We have arranged a CLOTHES AND SHOES RECYCLING DAY on Friday 16th October from 8:30am until  9:15am at Main School and there will be a collection from the annex too if you bring your items there on the collection day.

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ITEMS BEFORE THIS DATE AS WE HAVE NO WHERE TO STORE THEM.

All you need to do is bring along all of your clean and dry unwanted shoes and clothing to the school on Friday 16th October (including belts, handbags and hats).  Green Light Enterprise Limited- Ethical shoes and clothing recycling, will already be there by the time you arrive and will take the bags off you.  They will then pay the school for the amount you bring in.   Many schools are now recycling shoes and clothing (which includes clean, wearable: shoes, clothing, handbags belts and hats).  This is not only good for the environment but is also an extremely simple way to boost school funds.

Adults 70’s Disco Saturday 21st November, 8:30-11:30pm, Boley Park Community Hall
On Saturday 21st November we are holding an adults 70’s disco at Boley Park Community Hall- a sequel to our much enjoyed 80’s disco earlier this year.  Everyone who attended our last disco said they had a great time so we were keen to do a similar event. Keep an eye out for more details.

Christmas Fayre, Friday 4th December, 6-8pm, Main School
Finally the annual Christmas Fayre has been scheduled for Friday 4th December 6-8 pm hopefully with no power failures like last year!

Yours faithfully,

Miss H. McKay
Headteacher.
