2010 Ofsted Report

Family Letter number 9

11th March 2010

Dear Parents,

Year 3 and 4 Easter Celebration –
Wednesday 24th March at 2.00 p.m. and Friday 26th March at 9.30 a.m.
Parents and Grandparents are invited to join us for these special celebrations. There will be a collection in aid of the charity Njarange Area Project at the end of each performance.

Car Park
As you can see, the new car park is on the verge of completion.  We are pleased that the specialist surface and extensive planting has enhanced the look of the area.  We must stress, however, that the car park is strictly for staff and official visitor use.  Unfortunately, as with all schools, we are unable to accommodate parent car parking at the beginning and end of the school day.

Playground
The children have been very excited to watch the seating and planters being built on the main playground and construction of the outdoor learning space on the Foundation Stage playground.

It will not be long until Foundation Stage are able to go out and explore.

Many thanks to the P.T.A. for funding the benches and planters on the main playground.

Children’s Safety Before School

Please can I remind you that there is no supervision on the school playgrounds (both sites) and path (main school) until 8.40 a.m. each morning.  Please can you ensure that children do not arrive at school until this time.

Could we please ask you to keep the pathways at main school clear, there are a few children finding it difficult to some through a sea of pushchairs and bodies.  It would be greatly appreciated if the mobiles could be kept clear to enable Year 4 children to get through.

March Governor Drop in Session
Many thanks to those parents who attended the Governor drop in session this month.  The positive comments shared with Governors regarding school developments have also been shared with staff.  Mention was made of old photographs still on the school website.  We are in the process of checking permissions for the photographs – they will be appearing shortly.

PTA news

School disco
Saturday night at Boley Park Community Hall resembled a cross between St Trinian’s and Ghostbusters, with some fantastic outfits at the school disco.  A great night was enjoyed by all who attended, with plenty of musical flashbacks to our schooldays, and you raised £65, which will go towards playground equipment.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the event such a fun night out.
If discos aren’t your ‘cup of tea’ we will be holding a meeting dedicated to future fundraising ideas in April. This will be the perfect time to suggest an event that would suit you!

More details will follow nearer the time.

Fundraising update
Did you know that the average PTA contributes £5,500 a year to their school? Well, thanks to the fantastic support of the parents and teachers here, St Michael’s has raised an average of over £8,200 per year over the last two years.  So, what does the money get spent on?

Recurring events – some of the most popular events in the school year are paid for with the funds you’ve raised.  This includes the animal lady, a theatre performance in school, Christmas discos for Key Stage 2 and the Year 6 leavers’ books.

Additional classroom and playground equipment – recent requests from the School Council have included litter pickers and equipment for a vegetable growing project.  All children will shortly be benefitting from new playground equipment, and every class received £100 this year for additional classroom resources.

Larger fundraising projects – the most recent project has been to help with the refurbishment of the playgrounds at school.   £10,400 has been spent on the 2 canopies in the main school playgrounds and 2 bench seating arrangements for the annex and junior playgrounds (hopefully arriving soon).  The next large project is to raise funds for a new PA system for the school – please watch this space for how this is progressing.

All of the children benefit from the funds you raise for the school – you should be very proud of what you’ve achieved, well done and thank you!
