Spring Term Theme 2010: Winter
Dear Parents/ Carers,
On behalf of all the Nursery Staff I would like to say a big thank you for the lovely cards and gifts that we received at Christmas time. We hope that you had a happy holiday and send our best wishes to you all for 2010.
Our theme for the first part of this half term will be “Winter”. If you would like to follow this up at home, here are a few suggestions that you might like to try.
Talking
- Tell your child about the things you enjoyed doing in Winter as a child.
Making
- Show your child how to make paper snowflakes.
Story telling
- Visit your local library with your child to look for books which feature our theme, both stories and information books.
In the kitchen
- Talk about the different types of seasonal foods which we enjoy in Winter as you prepare hot drinks or meals on a cold day.
Out and about
- Use opportunities to draw your child’s attention to signs of Winter: Winter clothes, bare trees, frosty mornings, icy puddles or the shorter days.
What will the children have the opportunity to learn?
- To experience handling different materials.
- To make up stories using their imagination.
- To recognise seasonal changes.
- To ask questions, investigate and explore.
Resource requests...
We are hoping to collect these items for the theme and would be most grateful if you could provide any of the following:
- Books, both story and information, about the theme.
- Cuddly toy penguins, polar bears, seals, snowmen.
- Christmas card fronts with Winter scenes, snowmen, animals that live in cold places.
- White cotton wool.
- Silver tinsel, shiny foil, icicles, silver hanging decorations left over from Christmas.
Thanking you for your continuing support.
