Newsletter January 2008
Dear Parents,
This half term our topic is the Weather. If you have any suitable books or resources we can look at or share in class please bring them in.
In Literacy work we will be
- Continuing with our sounds work and high frequency words.
- We will be doing a lot of work around the rhyming books of Julia Donaldson. (Room on the broom, The Smartest Giant and The Gruffalo.) For example drama work and discussion - Where would you go on a broomstick? Can you write a spell to go in the cauldron? Write a thank you letter to the giant.
In Maths work
- Continuing with recognising, counting, writing and ordering numbers to 10/ 20 and beyond.
- Working on addition and subtraction with lots of practical, hands on activities to reinforce and develop the children’s vocabulary.
For example I have 6 hats and 3 scarves how many altogether?
How many more hats are there than scarves?
There are 10 children and I have 6 coats how many more coats do I need so that each child has a coat?
- Number bonds to 5/10 e.g. 1 and 4 makes 5, 4 and 1 makes 5. How many different ways can we make 5/10? Etc.
- Continuing to reinforce the language of size and it’s accurate use
e.g. Height- taller, shorter, tallest, shortest.
Length- long, longest, shortest etc.
Measuring
We have a shortage of girls spare pants, socks and tights. If you have any you can let us have we would appreciate it
Kind regards
Mrs Elcock and Mrs Lane
