Newsletter April 2008
Dear Parents,
This term our topic is Spring and New Growth. We will be doing lots of planting and growing activities both in the classroom and in the garden. Our role-play area will have the theme of a garden centre.
Visit to Ash End House Farm
As you know we are going to the farm on Tuesday 15th April. Please can you return the forms and money as soon as possible.
In Literacy work we will be:
- Continuing with our sounds work and high frequency words.
- Reading and sharing stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Jasper’s Beanstalk. If you have any books at home we might enjoy related to our theme please send them in.
- Finding information from non-fiction books to find out how, why, where and what. How is a non-fiction book different from a fiction text?
- The children have begun to identify capital letters and full stops and we are encouraging the children to begin to use them in their writing.
- Writing for different purposes for example stories, letters, lists.
In Maths work
- Number formation.
- Number bonds to 5/10 e.g. 1 and 4 makes 5, 4 and 1 makes 5. How many different ways can we make 5/10? Etc.
- Lots of measuring, weighting and estimating to do with out topic. E.g. How tall is the plant? How much has it grown?
- Continuing our work on addition and subtraction, beginning to record.
- Doubles of numbers to 10.
- Shopping in the class garden centre- many children find the idea of coins and what they are worth tricky if you could do some work at home to support this, great.
Kind regards Mrs Elcock and Mrs Lane
