School Council have met twice during the Autumn Term.
During the first meeting school council looked at the School Rules and reviewed the appropriate section of our Behaviour and Expectations Policy. They then fed back to the classes about this, which serves as a reminder to all.
They have also discussed what aspects of school life they wish to work on during this school year. The over whelming decision was to explore ways of making the school more environmentally friendly. This was explored more fully during the second meeting.
Each year group has agreed an aspect of this to explore with their classes:
Year 2 – things to grow in the school garden / grounds
Year 3 – keeping doors closed, keep warmth in
Year 4 – visit other schools to see eco-friendly status in place
Year 5 – posters as reminders for all in school
Year 6 – ideas for website (not only eco-friendly)
Miss Nickolls has been given her ‘to do list’ also.
During the next meeting in January the council will be exploring funding opportunities through Community Learning Partnership.
Year 5 and 6 are also concerned about the way their ‘library’ is often very messy – we are exploring the possibility of recruiting school librarians for this role.
Year 5 and 6 council members also stated that sometimes it can be difficult to see the adult on duty, especially at lunchtime. They asked whether it would be possible for staff to wear high visibility vests when on duty. Miss Nickolls agreed that this would be a good idea. After the meeting Miss Nickolls discussed this with Miss McKay and some of the mid-day supervisors. All agreed that this was a good idea.
These high visibility vests have now been ordered and we will start wearing them as soon as they arrive!
Well done School Council this sounds like a really good idea!
