Year 2 African Drumming

African drumming

As part of their study of Kenya in Geography Year 2 were able to participate in a drumming workshop on Monday 10th March 2008. This was provided by Rhythm Maker - Jahman Sillah led the sessions for each class in Year 1 and 2. He also entertained all of main school by performing during Worship.

The children, and staff, had a wonderful time and showed real ability with the drums! These photographs give an idea of how enthusiastic these sessions were, although they were exhausting (at least the staff found them to be!).

The children were taught about the use of drums for communication and celebration as well as how they are made. Please ask your child to talk to you about the materials used to produce an African drum.
Jahman's visit really brought this topic to life for us all.
