Information for parents and children

Welcome to Year 3!

We hope that you will find the following information useful and informative. It’s a snap shot of the curriculum for the autumn term and how we will be organising home-learning etc.

Home-learning

All home-learning tasks will be issued on Thursday and recorded in the child’s home-learning book (to be issued).Tasks should be completed and returned to the class teacher for marking by the following Monday.

Home-learning tasks for each week will vary slightly.  In a typical week, Year 3 children will receive a piece of literacy work and/or a spelling activity and a numeracy activity.  (Please note, not all activities will include a written task.)

We expect children to take pride and care over their learning and their home-learning books.  Where necessary, written tasks should be completed neatly in their books and it is also the child’s responsibility to glue in any sheets and to generally keep their books tidy.

We ask that parents support their children and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning at home. Parents, please do use the home-learning books as a way to communicate with us; your comments and observations are important!

Reading and Reading Records

In addition to the weekly homework, children are also expected to try to read at home daily.

In Year 3 children are able to independently choose a reading book from the classroom bookshelf.  This book is read at home and in free time in the class, which means it must be brought to school each day.  Your child can record titles of books read in their Reading Record diary.  Please note that teachers do not sign this book on a regular basis.

Children will read an alternative book in the class during group Guided Reading sessions.

Please note that children should be encouraged to access a varied ‘diet’ of reading material at home.  This may include comics, appropriate web pages, information books etc.

Home time

Please note that the Key Stage 2 dismissal time is 3.15pm. Your child will be dismissed from the classroom, from where they will walk out independently to meet you.

‘The Creative Curriculum’
